Assembly Talk
What a wonderful Book Week assembly we had as we listened to the talk, “Be a Christian Critical Reader.”
Students were guided to explore what it means to read critically, focusing on pre-reading, re-thinking, and new understanding. Through thoughtful questions, the talk encouraged meaningful reflection and helped deepen our understanding of reading in context—while also strengthening our ability to apply critical thinking in ways that remain true to Christian values.

April 20-21
Book Fair
Students have the exciting opportunity to visit the book fair and explore many great titles. With a wide variety of books on display, everyone could browse at their own pace, discover new authors and stories, and learn what books they might enjoy next. The fair also gives students a chance to make purchases and take their chosen books home, making Book Week even more memorable and enjoyable for the whole school community.

Gospel Lens Quick Read
Students are practicing how to read with eyes open—spotting the assumptions behind ideas and measuring them against Jesus’ values of love, truth, and humility. Through short, powerful reads and quick “margin notes,” they learn to ask thoughtful questions like: What is this text assuming about people? and How does it align with (or challenge) the way of Christ?
We’re so excited to celebrate the energy and courage students bring to every session—reflecting, and discussing with confidence as they discover how God’s truth shapes the way we think and live.

Cozy Readers’ Hub
The Cozy Readers’ Hub brought teachers together for a relaxed gathering during Book Week. From brief reflections on the April 20 Assembly Talk—especially reading in context and values-aligned content—to sharing reading passions, the afternoon was both nourishing and inspiring. Special thanks to Mr Fong for the homemade pancakes, it was a great way to connect with colleagues, recharge, and continue guiding students to become thoughtful, Christian critical readers.

Student Forum
A student forum was held as a follow-up to our Book Week assembly talk. After listening to our assembly message, “Be a Christian Critical Reader,” students had the opportunity to share their reflections in a thoughtful space where they could explore what it means to read critically while staying true to Christian values.
Student Book Sharing Session
Our Student Book Sharing session was a wonderful celebration of reading! Students came together to share books they have enjoyed, taking time to introduce what they read, and what they learned along the way. Each student had the challenge and excitement of speaking for 5 minutes, keeping their sharing clear, engaging, and full of enthusiasm. We’re proud of the confidence and student voice on display.

Reading with Discernment Talk
In the “Reading with Discernment—Seeing Literature with Fresh Eyes from God’s Perspectives” talk, students were challenged and encouraged to read with deeper reflection—asking what makes us uncomfortable, considering the values behind characters’ choices, and grounding our discernment in Scripture.
A great thank you to Ms Wingate, author of With Fresh Eyes, for sharing such clear and practical guidance on approaching both thought-provoking and biblical stories with wisdom and faith.
Be a Christian Critical Reader
As the final chapter of our Book Week closes, we’re overflowing with gratitude for the wisdom shared and the connections made. Our journey began with a deep intellectual dive during our Assembly Talk, where we explored “Be a Christian Critical Reader,” learning to engage with reading in context through a lens of faith. In the Student Forum and the lively Student Book Sharing sessions, our learners took center stage to articulate the lessons they discovered. Between the pages, students enjoyed the bustling Book Fair, finding new treasures to add to their personal libraries, and sharpened their perspectives through the “Gospel Lens Quick Read” activity. S1 students were further inspired by Ms Karen Wingate’s Talk on “Reading with Discernment.” Students also had the chance to discuss reading through a lens of faith in their Bible lessons. And for teachers, we held the Cozy Readers’ Hub—a supportive, teacher-only space to share and connect over reading.
A massive thank you to the students who shared their voices, the teachers who facilitated the magic and worked tirelessly behind the scenes. We move forward with a renewed passion for reading and a deeper understanding of critical reading of stories that shape our world
